West Region: Thursday RO64 Recap

From Kansas beginning their title defense, to Northwestern fending off Bosie State, the NCAA tournament made its way forward on day one. From action out of the West Region here is a quick recap of Thursday's action.

(1) Kansas 96 (16) Howard 68

Without Bill Self the Jayhawks began their tournament with a game against Howard. Howard held their own in the first half, but it didn't take long for Kansas to look like Kansas. Jayhawks roll in the first round to a 28-point victory.

(8) Arkansas 73 (9) Illinois 63

The Razorbacks who made a run into the second weekend last season looked to try and do the same in 2023. It started with a solid performance over the Fightin Ilini as they held a double figure lead for most of the game. The first Big Ten team to fall this tournament.

(7) Northwestern 75 (10) Bosie State 67

There have been just two NCAA tournament wins in Northwestern basketball history and their second one came tonight. With a big eight-point win over the Broncos the Wildcats were able to get the job done behind both their primetime players Audige and Buie. The second Big Ten winner of the day behind Maryland.

(2) UCLA 86 (15) UNC Ashville 53

The Bruins needed no help on Thursday as they cruise to a 33 point victory in round one. They advance to play Northwestern.
